Young people need to learn about their country, about the environment, wildlife, and other cultures in Kenya:
the magic of Kenya that many come from very far to have a taste of.
Young people need to be nurtured and fostered to grow up with a sense of pride in their country and in themselves,
to appreciate what they have.
It is becoming increasingly accepted knowledge that people of all ages retain only about 10% of what they hear but about 90% of what they do.
Environmental Tours are based on the theory of experiential education, which is simply that we learn best by experiencing or doing.
Environmental Tours emphasize getting the community actively involved in the learning process;
they encourage "doing," and this makes them a very effective teaching and learning tool.
The young people must feel a personal connection to the problem before they will be motivated to change it.
Seeing a problem and understanding the conditions which created it will not necessarily be enough to initiate the desire to change it.
Therefore, it is necessary to clarify the link to the problem and the group.
Making the personal connection increased the likelihood of making a long lasting impact and motivating students to work for social change.
That can be engaging the group in a discussion of how a nearby landfill or contaminated rivers in their area can affect their community.
We organize educational excursions for school groups to our camp. It involves team building, a lot of outdoor activities and active adventure.
This gives the students a well deserved break from class work thereby boosting their concentration once back.
A break is as good as a rest!
For the young people, it is about a purpose driven experience. The school trips are educational experiences where the young people learn about the environment,
cultures as well as have lots of fun. It is about appreciating the beauty and inculcating a sense of pride in being Kenyan among the youth!
This is a 3-4 days’ package that is definitely a lifetime experience for the future conservationists!
